Awaiting my ride to the airport. Last nights hotel catastrophe is that the smoke alarm went off at 1 am. Twice. When I come to the office in the a.m. to get onto the Internet, I hear the gossip, so this was, apparently, some guest smoking in their room. Today I had hot water and some cold so the shower wasnt painful. But Im really happy to be leaving this place. Already planning my scathing review on Trip Advisor, the revenge of the customer. I did rest last night and slept well. Watched a lot of TV, astonished to see many of the same shows that are popular in the US, Brit version here, dancing couples, amateur talent contests, shopping channels. The shows I liked and actually watched were (and the names might be wrong) Dinner Date, where 3 guys make a fancy meal for a woman and she gets to visit them and eat the meals and then decides which one she will take for a fancy dinner at a restaurant. The other was something like Hotel Inspector, a woman who is a former big-wig in hotels who is invited to small hotels to help them. She went to a crazy Greek place in Edgeware. The father is a self-taught artist, doing massive sculptures and arches in the garden. The son, typical Greek household, is in charge of the hotel and cant delegate. The 2 sisters and his girlfriend are trying to do things but he keeps nixing their ideas. The Hotel Inspector comes in and makes recommendations, some of which they follow, some they dont. I think the funniest part is when she returns and the father is now building a brick wall in the courtyard while the interior of the hotel has gone to rat shit. Cable shows, I guess, but fun. Good enough to put me to sleep. I had a great time in London, Whitstable, Brighton, at WFC, Oxford, Leeds, and felt so happy and privileged to hang with friends and meet new ones everywhere. This country is alive with history and art and quirkiness and Ive enjoyed every minute but for getting pretty wiped out by the end, which I guess is natural after 3 weeks. I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity. And now I go home to massive chaos. Familiar and ongoing and brand new chaos. Hopefully I can see it all with a fresh eye.
