Awww Ellen! I am sure you didnt mean to and just dont know so Im going to educate. I clicked the David Beckham gets a massage link and the normally savvy Ellen called the practitioner a masseuse Its nails on a chalkboard and I consider Ellen to be enlightened so I will just give it a quick once over. I am a licensed massage therapist, aka an LMT. I paid a considerable amount of money and make a considerable time investment to become an Licensed Massage Therapist and spend hours furthering my education. Although it is not technically incorrect to use the terms masseuse and masseur, the terms are antiquated and have unsavory associations, as in the past the term massage parlor” was a euphemism for prostitution and the terms masseuse and masseur were widely used at the time. The association between massage and prostitution has been a disservice to the professionals who study, work and devote their time to the respectable profession of alternative and complementary medicine that it is today. So, consider yourself educated and edified. I am sure it is not intentional and just a matter of being uninformed, So......unless youre actually speaking French, please dont call me a masseuse.
