Axe Of The Week. Hey metal-heads. This weeks Axe Of The Week - TopicsExpress

Axe Of The Week. Hey metal-heads. This weeks Axe Of The Week feature comes a day early as Ill be away at the Motorhead cruise jamming with my pal Jim Breuer. Todays feature is my pretty well known white Jackson RR USA model that you have seen me use in my Metal For Life columns in Guitar World. I have owned this guitar for the last few years and since the first day that I plugged it in ... it had a great unique sound. I have used it to record PainmuseuMs Metal For Life album and played it on the Halford/Ozzy tour in 2010. I record many of my Guitar World columns with it and I also used it to track several cuts on my The Metalworker album. I always play this guitar so its one of the ones that I consider my favorites. Here are some photos. The pickups are Seymour Duncan JB-4 in the bridge and N59 in the neck. The guitar is completely stock. As you can see I leave the headstock thrus-rod door open so I can make quick adjustment on the fly as Im pretty particular how my guitars feel and play. The long wing in taped up as I unfortunately hit the guitar, so some tape helps it. I keep it in regular E tuning and I use Daddario 9-46XL strings. The action is fairly high, although not ridiculous. I like to feel the string when I bend it and the higher action, in my ears, results in a better overall tone. The dark spots underneath the strings are not grime. It is graphite from a no.2 pencil. When I change strings I shave some off in the string groves at the nut. Graphite is very slick and helps from strings getting stuck. This little trick helps in keeping your axe in tune. Hope you dig it.
