Axone! My friend had just come back from home after a vacation and as expected, the usual crowd of foodies got together to sample the goodies. We got ready to go to the dining hall for lunch when my friend pulled out the pungent container of axone, everyone smiled as I remarked, Aji bi plain manu kon bi moikhan laka table te na buhibo. Some people who do come to our table sit for a few seconds, sniff irritatedly and then move on to the next table, some recognize the jar of the black stuff from afar and avoid our table, most times there are 5-6 of us axone lovers at a table. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Sumis for introducing this delicious version of soyabean with a very strong smell which most people outside NE find repulsive but once they get the hang of it, theyre hooked. A dark South Indian guy, when ever I go home; used to tell me in his trademark way, smiling and shaking his head, bring some akhuni for me ok?. Im sure that there have many more stories regarding our popular dish. Aside from the incidents of co-passengers giving spiteful glances when the package has not been sealed properly, I heard of a couple who were not allowed to board a flight by the security there because the authorities there thought that our bleloved axone was a drug, I dont blame them, its an addiction to some. My respects to axone though I feel sorry the friends of flatulent people who had to bear the after-effects of a nice meal with axone. :D
