Ayo Fayose, Ekiti State Governor, has come under huge criticism following the recently published advertisement in the Punch and Sun newspapers allegedly raising concern about the health status of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Retd), the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate. The most recent attack comes from APC chief, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, who is also a member of the Buhari/Osinbajo campaign organisation. In a statement personally signed by him, issued on Monday in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, Baraje blasted the Ekiti state governor over the advertisement linking Buhari to death, ThisDay reports. Baraje called on the security chiefs to wade in and quickly do something about the provocative comments emanating from Fayose, noting that such comments could ignite a crisis in the country. He described the advertisement placed on the front page of one of the national newspapers and credited to Governor Fayose as “not only reckless, uncalled for, but also a statement that can cause anarchy and crisis in the country.” Baraje condemned the fact that Fayose’s statement came days after the presidential candidates of the PDP and the APC, President Goodluck Jonathan and Buhari respectively, as well as the presidential candidates of the other political parties, signed a non-violence accord for peaceful elections across the country. “There is a limit to the tolerance of well meaningful Nigerians to inflammatory statements such as that of Governor Ayo Fayose. This shows the extent of the desperation of the ruling PDP. Such statement apart from having the tendency to cause anarchy and acrimony, the PDP seems to be preparing the grounds for violence few days to the general election,” he said. It will be recalled that Fayose placed an advertisement in the Punch and Sun newspapers showing Nigeria’s past leaders, the late Gen. Sani Abacha, Murtala Muhammed, former President Musa Yar’Adua together with a photograph of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari with a question mark on his image.
