Ayr Pool vandalised on the weekend Burdekin Shire Council was forced to close the Ayr Pool on Sunday after it was vandalised on Saturday night. Mayor Bill Lowis said he was disgusted by the news and called on the community to call CrimeStoppers if they knew who was involved in the incident. “This stupid act of a group of people has impacted on the entire community by forcing the closure of the pool,” he said. “Pool staff came to work on Sunday to find someone had defecated in the pool, damaged the poles around the pool and broken the fence surrounding the pool’s filters. “I don’t understand why anyone would think this sort of behaviour was fun.” Cr Lowis said the closure not only had an impact on the local community, but also on employees who had lost a day’s wages. “Council had to use extra chlorine to clean the pool and the cost impacts on ratepayers and has left those working at the pool with the loss of Sunday’s wages,” he said. “It’s just not on.” Anyone with information on the incident should call CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
