Ayurveda’s Mantra: Cure the System, not the Symptom! Are you down with fever more often than not? Do you have severe digestion problems which get subsided every time you use that pill, but resurface once you stop using it? Does you lower back hurt frequently, but the pain disappears once you use that tablet… albeit temporarily? Well if you fall in this category, then it’s time you follow Ayurveda’s Mantra: Cure the System… not the Symptom! The problem with modern-day medicine is that, it can provide you instant relief from pain and agony, but the point we miss is that the dormant volcano inside our bodies is dying to erupt at every possible opportunity. And that is why it is important for us to cure the ‘Cause’ and not the ‘Symptom’. But for us to understand the ‘Cause’, we first need to understand what causes the ‘Cause’ itself. In simple words, a state of equilibrium with the nature or ‘Balance’ keeps us healthy. And that is the reason why we stay healthy, when we get our basics like nutritious food, exercise, living conditions etc right. But every time this ‘Balance’ is disrupted (more often than not due to our intervention), it results in ‘Imbalances’ or diseases/ailments. The centuries-old Ayurveda talks about restoring this ‘Balance’, so that you can take the right measures to prevent diseases/ailments, instead of worrying about curing them. So, how about a mechanism that prevents cough, cold and fever or digestion problems or back-ache for good in your life, instead of worrying about tablets/injections that can only subside the ‘Symptoms’. As they say, prevention is always better than cure. The right ‘Balance’ between your body, mind & soul and mother nature will help you lead a balanced, ailment-free life. While any ‘Imbalance’ would result in diseases/ailments. 1. Balanced doshas; Vata, Pitta and Kapha, 2. Balanced agni; the digestive or metabolic fire, 3. Balanced and well-nourished dhatus; the seven tissues, 4. Balanced mala-kriya; excretion or waste-disposal (stool, urine and sweat) 5. And an optimal ojas; ‘vigor’, vitality and strength, will help you maintain good health. Any deviation, variation, disturbance or imbalance in any of the above-mentioned layers could result in ailments/diseases. Ultimately, ‘Balance’ is health and ‘Imbalance’ is disease. And above all, you need prasanna aatma, indriya, manaha (happy and pleasant soul, sensory organs and mind) to lead a healthy, disease/ailment-free life. So how about ‘Living the Ayurvedic Way’ and creating that perfect ‘Harmony/Balance’ in your life? Keep following this space to find out more about how to create that perfect ‘Balance’ in your life.
