Azad Bharat ka itihas – Part 318 Preparations for 2014: Muslims are the target Azizul Hind Yes, I am extremely enraged. If Rahul Gandhi can be enraged at the police persecution of the farmers of Bhatta Parsul, I am also enraged at the situation in Kashmir and Deoband. Innocent Muslims are persecuted in a planned way and the governments are doing nothing except formal paper work and giving false assurances. It is not that the intelligence agencies have no knowledge of the fact that the communal parties are trying to divide the country on communal lines according to their election strategy and it has been started by Narendra Modi at the behest of the RSS. We are in possession of evidences to prove that the RSS is not only the enemy of the Muslims but is also against a secular India. And the communal tensions in various parts of the country are being created only in preparation to the elections. Kashmir is sensitive zone with Muslim majority population but unfortunately it is under siege by the army and this siege is not for carrying out its duty sincerely but to represent a particular mindset. I am in Delhi,no doubt, but on watching the situation in the valley, my heart weeps bitterly. The sacred month of Ramzan is in progress but the Friday prayers in many mosques in Kashmir could not be held. Roads present a deserted look and Kashmir, the paradise on earth presents a picture of hell. Why? Who is responsible? Will the same excuse be made every time that this situation has been created by terrorism in Kashmir? We do not ponder why our mind is only preoccupied by the idea that Kashmir is ours. Why don’t we acknowledge that Kashmiris are ours? We only reiterate the assertion that Kashmir is an inseparable part of India. But how will we keep it inseparable? With the help of the BSF? By firing at innocent people? Indeed, there must be some miscreants but I have visited Kashmir many times and seen that not every Kashmiri is a separatist. What they want is a peaceful life. Have we ensured a peaceful life to them? Isn’t it our responsibility? If the elected chief minister of Kashmir was compelled to say that the largest number of fake encounters have been conducted in Kashmir, there must be some reason. This statement was not made by any ordinary citizen, not made by a separatist. This is a statement of the Chief Minister of the state. May be what I say seem a bitter pill but whenever I have walked down the streets in Kashmir as an ordinary citizen, I have felt that we have turned Kashmir into a jail. The Kashmiris do not even know what the life is like after the sunset. Everyone is looked at with suspicion. If we consider every citizen a terrorist, doubt him, how can we win their confidence? Becoming a victim of the bullets of the army is a routine affair today. Now even the tears have dried up in the eyes of the mothers who have lost their sons. I was in Srinagar in connection with the inauguration of my newspaper in Kashmir. I cannot narrate what kind of questions and difficulties I faced there. However, I do not want to go into the details at the moment. Today I just want to draw the attention of the Chief Minister of the state and particulary the Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde towards one issue. Have we deployed army in all such states and have given them the freedom to arrest anyone at will and kill him branding him a terrorist? Is not terrorism more intense and damaging in the Naxal affected areas? Have they carried out massacres with a deadly plan in Kashmir as the Naxals did recently killing Congress leaders? This has become the order of the day in Naxal affected areas. Do we have the courage to declare them terrorists like the Kashmiris and treat them as terrorists? There is not dearth of people speaking in their favour who ask the countrymen to try and understand their emotions. But does anyone ask us to understand the emotions of the Kashmiris? Does anyone feel what kind of resentment this situation right in the month of Ramadhan cause among the people as they can neither break their fast properly nor can they have their sehri. Even they can’t offer Friday prayers in mosques. And no one knows what kind of a confined and painful life they live even in their homes. Deoband that assumes a central position not only India but in the whole Islamic world is also marred by communal conflagration for the last few days. Today when I am writing this piece, the responsible people there have sit together and taking stock of the situation and deliberating on how the situation can be brought to normal. The ulema of Darul Uloom Deoband have always prayed for the safety and security of the country. They have played an unforgettable role in the freedom of India. They have presented the proof of their love for the country in every way right from making donations for the freedom movement to being tortured by the British to even hanging from the noose. Today Deoband is also craving for peace. The communal elements resort to violence even at midnight, the police and the administration are compelled to clamp Section 144 creating a curfew like situation. The correspondents of Azizul Hind from both Srinagar and Deoband have filed detailed reports which I am going to publish in today’s edition on page 3 and 4. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to write in detail on the issue. But today the issue has not remained confined only to Kashmir and Deoband. In Tonk, Rajasthan the Muslims gathered in a mosque and were meted out torture and persecution. Several Muslims were taken injured and one devotee lost his life. In Fatehpuri mosque in Delhi, two incidents of desecration of the Quran occurred in a week. Have the police been able to arrest the miscreants? Not the elections to some big cities or states but the general elections of 2014 are far now. The assembly elections in five states have also to be held towards the end of this year. Political parties have no accomplishments worth presenting before the public. But if the people are divided on communal lines, then the two big political parties of the country will not need to tell them about their good deeds to the public. The election will become communalism vs secularism. This will give both the parties to attract the voters to them. This is why the biggest party is actively trying to create an atmosphere of tensions all over the country. On the other hand, the government has also decided not to deal with them strictly. They are only interested in verbal assurances. Muslims are the target of both. As the communal party thinks that by hurting the Muslims, they will get the sympathy of the Hindus, the ruling party is silent because it thinks that if communal party persecutes Muslims, the sympathies of the Muslims will be in their favour as they have no other option. The rest of the parties are aware of the fact that they do not have the strength to form government. However, they can play an important role in the formation of government or becoming a part of the government. At the moment, it is not sure who will form the government and which party will offer them the opportunity to become a part of the government. So, it would be wise to remain silent. Showing an inclination to any other party may make things difficult for them in future. Are the Muslims of India unaware of these facts? No, definitely not. They know it very well that all this politics is played only with them in mind and the atmosphere of communalism, the violence is aimed at dividing the country on communal lines. Will Muslims still remain silent? Will they have the stance that let the Kashmiri deal with the situation in Kashmir or let the people of Deoband deal with the situation there? What do we have to do if there is tension in Rajasthan? If we think on this line, we are at a great fault. And you are still wrong if you think that you have your elected representatives at those places and they will deal with the situation. The fire of communalism has not burned them personally. They are not persecuted anywhere. I am not holding anyone of them responsible. They have their own limitations. They have to look up to their political masters to be told where to speak and where to remain silent. If they try to speak contrary to the diktat of their master, they get apt punishment putting their political future in jeopardy. Therefore, if their silence is their need, breaking silence is your requirement and need according to the time. If the Friday prayers were not held and there was silence in Kashmir valley, Friday prayers were indeed held in your cities and towns. Who had stopped you from praying for the victims in a loud voice? Why don’t you think that if you give even a four line memorandum to your district magistrate and write a four line letter to the prime minister and the home minister, it will make some difference? If thousands raise their voice against this injustice and persecution from all over the country, the government of India will be compelled to think in that direction and in this situation the local administration will also be issued strict orders. The responsibility of maintaining peace and order in any city lies with the local administration but it does not cut much ice until it gets pressure from the higher authorities. Governments also do not get awake unless you stir them hard. Feeble voices do not make them awake. Therefore, if you raise your voice the next time, make sure that its reverberations reach Delhi. Azizul Hind promises to you that it will not hesitate to raise its voice along with you and force the government to wake up and carry out its duty provided you raise your voice before the fire of communalism and violence reaches your door.
