Azad hits out at Pak for ‘creating unrest’ in JK ‘Militancy took off our focus from development’ RAFI CHOUDHARY SmallerDefaultLarger Doda, Nov 15: Former Chief Minister and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Friday took on Pakistan for allegedly creating unrest in Jammu and Kashmir which stalled developmental activities in the State. “The developmental activities came to standstill in the State in the last 20 years of turmoil. It was Pakistan which created the monster of militancy, lured the youth from the State and shattered the region,” the Union Minister said addressing a public meeting near Gandoh. He said that during the militancy period the State government could not focus on developmental activities as main thrust was on restoration of peace and normalcy. “Now when the situation has improved, development is one of the prime focus of State and Union governments.” Asserting that peace and brotherhood was imperative for carrying out developmental works, the Minister said the State is now facing a peculiar problem of communal disturbance created by some vested interests.“We have to work together against such forces to enable government to focus on the issues confronting the people,” Azad said and referred to the ‘planned conspiracy to divide people in the name of region and religion ahead of elections.’ Azad said that it was Congress which took the charge and ensured developmental work are taken up and executed in time-bound manner in the State, especially in Chenab Valley. He referred to various projects undertaken by the government across Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, after laying the foundation of 100-bed Sub District Hospital Gandoh, Azad Friday said that mutual love and peaceful coexistence between various communities is the key to development. He lauded the people of the region for “maintaining communal harmony and peace in the area.” He cautioned the masses against “divisive forces” and urged them to “defeat their nefarious designs.” An official spokesman said while highlighting major developmental initiatives taken by the coalition government for the overall development of the people of the Chenab region, Azad said “uplifting common people and providing them basic amenities in Health, Education and Road sector have received special focus.” He said in due course of time “more hospitals will be established in the Chenab Valley region and under the flagship NRHM programme, doctors serving in rural areas will get enhanced salary of Rs 55000 that will serve as incentive for them to work in these areas.”
