A’Ibom 2015 Guber Race, Former Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Mr Umana Okon Umana defects to All Progressives Congress (APC) | APCNEWSALERT .says he will lead Akwa Ibom State, that God gives power, not man If the confirmation from Mr Etim Etim, a media professional working for Mr Umana Okon Umana is anything to go by, Mr Umana Okon Umana, the former Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government will officially defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday 27th November 2014. According to Mr Etim Etim, “I can confirm that the National Leader of the APC, Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu, all the Presidential Aspirants, all the APC Governors, including Gov. Amaechi, and many other APC dignitaries will storm Uyo on Thursday, 27th Nov to receive UOU and all his supporters. I urge all Akwa Ibom people to await further announcement. A press conference is planned for Tuesday. “ Obong Umana Okon Umana was instrumental to the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as Governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2007 by throwing his financial support for him. Mr Umana Okon Umana popularly called UOU was Director of Budget under Governor Victor Attah before being appointed by Governor Godswill Akpabio as the Secretary to the State Government for the first 4 years and re-appointed again as SSG in 2011 in his second term until 2013 as a compensation for helping him ascend to power. During the past couple of months, UOU has had running battle with Governor Akpabio as it regards Akwa Ibom State succession plan initiated by Godswill Akpabio under PDP after he was unceremoniously sacked from office. The last straw the broke the camel’s back was the decision of the PDP NWC to zone the AKS2015 governorship ticket to Eket Senatorial District whereas UOU is from Uyo Senatorial District. UOU had gone to court to challenge the decision of the party on that regard. What is not certain is how All Progressives Congress will accommodate the interest of all stakeholders of APC in Akwa Ibom State especially the former ACN Gubernatorial candidate of the party in 2011 governorship race, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe who has purchased the APC nomination form to contest the governorship race again under APC platform. The most important thing here is that, the addition of Umana Okon Umana into the fold of APC in Akwa Ibom State, in effect will change the political calculation in the State and of course will further boast the winning chances of the party in the coming election in view of the fact that majority of the citizens have ganged up against Governor Godswill Akpabio’s imposition plan of foisting the immediate past Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Mr Udom Emmanuel on the people, a decision the people have seriously frowned at and have vowed to resist even if it means using alternative political platform which APC has provided to actualize their dream of having a governor of their own. Should Godswill Akpabio succeeds in conniving with President Jonathan and PDP NWC to manipulate the primaries to favour Udom, then it can be comfortably said that APC will send PDP parking in Akwa Ibom State.
