A’Ibom indigenes urge Jonathan to declare for second term By Akinwunmi King, Snr Reporter, Lagos Akwa Ibom indigenes in the Diaspora, under the aegis of Akwa Ibom Diaspora Network (AIDN), has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to declare for second term to help bring about a new Nigeria. Also, the group has said it is in support of the state of emergency declaration in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states recently by Jonathan. In a statement jointly signed by its President, Secretary General and Coordinator, Clement Ikpatt, Uduak Ukpeh and Saturday Jackson respectively, the group said, “We believe that President Jonathan has provided the most result-oriented and clearest road map for multi-sector transformation of Nigeria. “Although a herculean task to accomplish, it is a very noble cause to undertake for our country in order to restore and sustain glories while establishing competitive advantages over other nations of the world. “We also believe that President Jonathan has focus, patience, stability of mind and other capacities for transformational leadership. “Therefore, we join with all progress minded Nigerians to appeal that he considers and soon decide to take up a second term as President in order to help bring about the new Nigeria of our dreams. “Regarding the spate of violence in Northern Nigeria caused by some religious fundamentalists and terrorists, we extend our condolences to President Jonathan and all bereaved families for the lives needlessly lost since about two years ago. Be assured that we are praying for all victims and the country in general. “We support and commend President Jonathan for the wisdom in declaring a State of Emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. “Only few days since the declaration, it is evident that the state of emergency is a well-calibrated action that is not only working to dislodge the terrorist network, but remains the silver bullet with which to quickly win the battle against Boko Haram,” the statement read in part. AIDN maintained that total victory in the war against terrorism will require more creative and stricter policy actions because of some nebulous political and socioeconomic factors feeding terrorism and restiveness in the country. “We believe that the Federal Government has the resourceful leadership needed to bring about such creative and stricter policy actions. “With the support of well meaning Nigerians, we are confident that President Jonathan will lead the nation to win the war against terrorism. “In order to bolster the state of emergency declaration, we kindly suggest that the Federal Government put in place emergency programs to stabilise communities and stimulate economic growth in affected areas. “During the Akwa Ibom Leadership and Economic Summit 2013 holding in Düsseldorf, Germany on August 1-3, 2013, we will celebrate Nigerias Centenary and launch the Diaspora Political Action Committee (DPAC) with the sole purpose of mobilising a strong Nigerians-in-Diaspora support base for the transformation agenda of the current administration
