B-17 Just Nothing of the 324th BS 91st BG. Just Nothing was lost to flak on the April 22,1944 mission to Hamm, Germany that they were flying as 91st Bomb Groups lead aircraft. Shortly after bombs away they were hit by flak and dropped out of formation, most of the crew bailing out before the plane exploded. Only four of the crew in the photo were aboard for the mission. They had Maj. Charles Lee, from group headquarters, flying as co-pilot, the squadron navigator and the group navigator, as well as a pilot/formation monitor flying as tail gunner. Capt. Hesse and the flight engineer were killed in the explosion. MACR 4259 Capt. Harvey G.
