B.A.P in K-Pop Collection 2013-2014 Magazine (Part 1) Next Big Artist B.A.P Original and Ferocious Super Group 8 months after their debut, in February of 2013, with record breaking speed for a Korean Idol group, B.A.P held their first solo concert in Seoul. In various Asian countries, and of course in America, Germany and other countries, they are a talented group drawing enthusastic attention, and this fall they will debut in Japan. B.A.P Firing Up! They are a 6 member boy group who debuted in 2012 with Secret’s agency, TS Entertainment. B.A.P means “Best, Absolute, Perfect." Normally, before debuting, group members will often do solo or small unit projects, but in B.A.P’s case even this was a rare phenomenon. Leader Yongguk featured on Secret member Song Ji Eun’s song “Going Crazy," as well released a solo single “I Remember" with BEAST’s Yang Yoseob. Furthermore, he was also part of the sub-unit BANG & ZELO, who released a single and did promotions with much success. Even before their debut, B.A.P had caught a lot of attention, and so when they had their debut showcase in front of 3000 people, it was an brilliant debut indeed. Talented B.A.P doesn’t even seem like a rookie group. In the current K-pop world, most idols are mass produced and debut according to how they were trained, which is probably why B.A.P is very appealing. The concept for the group was 6 “soldiers," and with their debut song “Warrior" they showed their unique qualities [lit: their “B.A.P-ness"], showing off their hip-hop image and deep lyrics through beats that still appeal to a mass audience. Their dance performance is also very unique, rather than following one theme, they put forward a strong face and give off an allure of “power." With this unique charm, foreign fans also responded enthusiastically; “Warrior" was #2 on Germany’s Asian Music Chart, their second single “Power" was #1 on iTunes’ Top 10 Hip-hop album chart in Canada and New Zealand, while it was at #2 in America and Australia. Their recent track “One Shot" lead on the Sweeden, Japan, Norway, Finland, England, Greece iTunes charts, and the single was #1 on Germany’s Asian Music Chart for 3 months (as of May). Furthermore, from the end of 2012 to 2013, in korea the group won an award from Online Music Download site “Melon," and the group has won awards in China, Germany, France and other countries for a total of 14 rookie awards. "No Mercy" is a unique sounding mix of traditional music and hip hop, while “Crash" give the group an “Idol feel" with a pop sound, showing the many faces of B.A.P. In May of 2013, B.A.P held concerts in LA, San Francisco, Washington, and New York, a total of 4 American cities, and for their Pacific Tour also have stops in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. This tour will provide them with valuable experience and growth, which we can look forward to in their music, from now on we won’t know what to expect from B.A.P.
