B Rand Nickell knew todays pop quiz answer: To Show I Love You, the 10th chart single for British singing duo Peter and Gordon, made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 30, 1966. The song was written by Tony Hatch, who wrote or co-wrote most of Petula Clarks hits. John Burgess produced the recording, for which Bob Leaper did musical arrangement and conducting. The duos Gordon Waller told us about how the liabilities of fame affected him. I couldnt go down to a local pub and have a couple of pints, because Id just get lynched. People would say, Are you looking at my girlfriend? And Id say, No, Im not, I wouldnt bother. Released by Columbia in the U.K. and by the Capitol Records label in the United States, To Show I Love You was on the Billboard chart for only two weeks, and went no higher than No. 98. The duos follow-up release, however, proved to be their second-biggest hit: Lady Godiva.
