B U R R O U S . . . South Main Street - Wellsville, New York Friday evening, June 13, 2014 jwa As most everyone knows in Wellsville, the BURROUS building has been sitting in PURGATORY, expiating her SINS, before her grand entrance into HEAVEN. When I took these photographs and was looking into the back side of this building, a gaping hole complete with a Time Share for PIGEONS.... I thought this cant be saved. TONIGHT I FELT DIFFERENTLY !!! The BEAUTY of this STRUCTURE is in HER FACADE, not her INTERIOR. As was done in the Truman era RESTORATION of the WHITE HOUSE, the interior which did have historic value was removed and stored, then all FOUR PERIMETER WALLS of the WHITE HOUSE were supported by new vertical steel beams along with a complete skeleton of internal beams to reconstruct her interiors. I say stabilize the front and end facade of the BURROUS building with steel beam supports and then tear down the entire rest of the building. Reconstruct the demolished portion. Main Street would retain the lovely period facade provided by her presence. The ground floor entrance and copper overhang would be removed and copper sold for scrape metal, which in todays prices, copper would provide some good cash. The ground floor facade would then be restored to match the upper two floors. A win-win situation. jwa P.S. My father reminded me over a Texas Hot dinner, that the 1901 building to the far right end of Burrous and abutting up to the Pizza King, was the location of the WEINHAUER CAR DEALERSHIP, in its day. The show room was on the ground floor. My grandfather John Kenneth Washburn worked as as mechanic in one of the out buildings behind this structure, now long gone.
