B1-road claims another life Namibia has experienced a quiet period on the roads on New Years Eve and New Years Day, but the first life was claimed on the B1-road on 2 January. Floris Steenkamp also reported from the coast that since the gruesome accident took place on 29 December on the Swakopmund-Henties Bay road in which six people were killed, no serious accidents have been reported to date (3 January 2015). The Police reported that no serious accidents occurred in the Karas, Hardap and Oshana Regions since Christmas. However, an accident, about 12km north from Otjiwarongo on the Otavi road, claimed the life of one person on 2 January. According to the Police a bakkie overturned and one of the passengers on the back of it died on the spot. The driver and his child escaped the accident without any injuries, while the second passenger on the back of the bakkie had been admitted to the hospital at Otjiwarongo with slight injuries. According to the Police the one rear tyre of the bakkie had burst where the driver lost control after which it overturned.
