BABY BIRDS...Please share this because we get so many calls regarding this issue and many people dont know so we want to share with people so they can learn about the natural process of baby birds leaving the nest and learning to fly. When baby birds leave the nest, they are usually still unable to fly. They flutter to the ground and there they are...vulnerable but where they should be at that time. Their parents see and hear them. They watch over them and go to the ground to feed the baby. They begin to encourage the baby to go with them and the baby will try. However, it can take a while for the baby to catch on and begin to try to fly. First, they may fly to a low branch, then a higher branch or a fence top. Eventually, they will fly. In the mean time, when the parents are watching, they will try to protect their baby by making noise or dive bombing if a predator gets near. Some babies are lost to cats or dogs, but many are able to get off the ground and go on to have a good life. Its best to allow them to learn to fly and let their parents continue to teach them. Only if they are sick, injured, or in imminent danger should we intervene. By the way, we get a lot of crow babies who should have been left alone. They are in very close families and its sad to take them away unless its absolutely necessary. Their parents really commit themselves for a very long time to caring for their young. So glad we have the opportunity to pass along information such as this to you and others. Please keep sharing.
