BACK TO LIFE After 5 weeks in hospital and 3 weeks in a rehabilitation-clinic I’m back at home to live as a free man again since friday, december 5. It was a very difficult time for me, physically and psychically, not to say traumatic. Neither 99% of the doctors nor of the nurses etc. new anything about Fibomyalgia and/or ME/CFS. My emotional situation right now can be compared with the one of the Sioux-Indian, who alights from his horse in the middle of his trip and sits at the wayside. Asked by the fellow Sioux-Indians what he is doing he answered: „I’m waiting here until my soul arrives.“ My wife Dolores and I were on the way home on our motorhome-trip through Italy. Already in the middle of the two weeks holiday my right knee started to hurt more and more. On our home-trip we got strandes in the region of Milan (Milano), because I hadn’t the force anymore to use the breaks. Before getting stranded I drove the motorhome for about 300 km only with the left foot. After beeing evacuated back home by my son-in-law and my daughter (they live just across the border in Italy) I went straight to our regional hospital. I was diagnosed with a highly dangerous staphykococcal infection. The first 3 weeks - I hardly remember anything except the pain - I had one surgery per week the first 3 weeks They fighted against the infection by washing out the beasts which had „eaten“ the whole cartilage (right word for German Knorpel?) and parts of the bones. Half of the meniscus had to be removed. I also had an acute kidney insufficency. So it was very narrow to the end. Back home now I can walk a few meters with the help of sticks or I must use a wheelchair. To go somewhere (Physio, Doctor) we had to buy a converted car with a ramp at the rear end to be able to drive into the car with the wheelchair. What the future brings I don’t know. But I’m still able to be (cautiously) optimistic. One of the regained pleasures is to look into FB and read some of your posts. I wish you all the best for the Christmas season and great you from Switzerland.
