BACK TO THE BARN: First of all I would like to wish my friend - TopicsExpress

BACK TO THE BARN: First of all I would like to wish my friend Peter Bennett a happy birthday. Hes seventy three today but doesnt look it. Our last day on the road was kinda dramatic. We had stayed near Grants Pass in an RV place that has to be the most laid out place Ive ever seen. Most places line you up in neat rows with the pull throughs for the over nighters. This place had a place to park here and one over there with a couple more down over around the corner. They even had a Follow Me truck. It was quiet and you could barely hear the highway. I think it would be a nice place to stay awhile in the summer. So we headed north on I-5 while a major storm was coming in from the west. Wed get to drive in the rain and then it would clear up. This happened all the way up. I think we saw no less than six rainbow right in front of us. The only problem was the cycle of the weather pattern. Wed be in the sun and then sight a rainbow. While driving toward it the wind would start to gust heavier and heavier until we would hit a rain cell and it would really come down for a little while. The further north we went the worse they got. Ill tell you that this rig sure stops a lot of wind from the side. But it was all through some beautiful country. Some idiot did something stupid somewhere around Olimpia and we got hung up in a parking lot which was I-5. That one cost us an hour. We were stuck for so long that Blossom came out of hibernation to survey the situation. But not being impressed she settled in for a rub-the-kitty session with Freda for a very long time. After the passing of the road block, traffic settled out to be quite heavy and stayed that way until we pulled off I-5 to get to Whidbey Island. We had another 30 minute delay running past Everett and that completely blew any kind of a schedule I thought I had. Dan (son-in-law) warned of gusting winds on the island and we hit a doozey just south of Oak Harbor. The rain completely obliterated the car in front of me and we both almost came to a stop. However, it was just a cell running through and we made it home without any further gusting or raining. Now to get in here one has to drive down a gravel driveway (its really dirt but I wanted it to sound good) about three tenths of a mile. Then the driveway loops with the turn out provided for the barn yard. We park on the other side of that turn out and everything is all one lane. Its impossible to turn this thing around anywhere in this passage so it has to be backed down. Last time I did it was when we came back from California and I wiped out the stock water spigot. So this time Freda got to drive it. The understanding was that she did everything real slow and I would give instruction from just outside the window. When Laurel first married Dan he considered me the Devil Incarnate all the while putting up with me. Since then weve become very good friends while Dan has become very religious. He is a truly wonderful person and I am so pleased that she found him. Anyway, I had gotten Freda about half way through the first turn at the top of the drive when I wsaw some flickering of a flashlight coming up the driveway (Dan makes a living driving and was on his way to help). I was looking back that way when the entire sky went completely white. I was blinded and couldnt see anything for a brief moment. Then, as my sight returned, I could see a tall figure standing there at the epicenter of the white-out. Then the thunder arrived further announcing his presence. I had to lean on the rig as I couldnt stand up. Freda had no idea what had happened. She kept asking if I was okay and I couldnt stop laughing. Dan had walked up and was trying to formulate something appropriate so I just hugged him. With Freda driving we talked her down the path, past the trees in the circle, and past the other objects scattered around. She did a purrfect job and were HOME.
