BADMINTON Srikanth wins Thailand Open Indian badminton welcomed its newest star as a little-known K. CRICKET England-New Zealand ODI Series Martin Guptill blasted a majestic unbeaten 189, to equal fifth highest score in one-day international cricket and propel New Zealand to a 86-run win over England in the second ODI and take an unassailable lead in the three-match series. England won the third ODI by 34 runs to finally loose the three-match series 2-1. Champions Trophy India won the Champions Trophy 50-over tournament after beating England by 5 runs in the final, which became a Twenty20 match because of the rain. India had defeated Sri Lanka to reach the finals. England defeated South Africa in the semi-finals. ICC announces World Test Championship The International Cricket Council has announced its much awaited World Test Championship which will have its inaugural edition in England during the month of June and July in the year 2017. The second edition will be held in India in 2021. It has also been decided that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would host the World Twenty20 for the first time in 2016 and its fourth 50-over World Cup in 2023. TENNIS French Open, 2013 World number one Serena Williams clinched her second French Open title when she beat defending champion Maria Sharapova of Russia 6-4 6-4 to win the women’s singles title. The 31-year-old American, who won her first Roland Garros title in 2002, also became the oldest player since tennis turned professional in 1968 to lift the Suzanne Lenglen Cup. Rafael Nadal defeated David Ferrer to become the first man to capture the same Grand Slam title eight times. Nadal claimed the men’s singles title with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 win over his Spanish compatriot who was playing in his first Grand Slam final at the age of 31. Bob and Mike Bryan won the men’s doubles title, defeating Llodra and Mahut of France. With this victory they earned their first multiple slam set. Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina of Russia defeated the defending champions Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci of France to win the women’s doubles title. Lucie Hradecká and František Cermák of Czech Republic won the mixed doubles title, defeating Kristina Mladenovic and Daniel Nestor in the final.
