BAL KESHAV THACKERAY: A NEGLECTED LEGACY On Balasahebs birthday, I would like to know why he has not been considered for a Bharat Ratna. This son of India is certainly more deserving than many recent conferees. Many people view his legacy through the narrow prism of restoration of Marathi Swabhimaan. While that was his initial achievement and given the situation, necessary, the real legacy is his acute analysis of the true nature of the Bharatiya Rashtra and promotion of national values. One cannot remember a clearer and more strident spokesperson and conscience keeper for our national identity in the last 50 years. His contribution is remarkable, especially in light of the almost water tight grip of Marxist, Fabian socialist and pseudo secular ideology during the era in which he strode the Mumbai and later national stage. Those who support the call for a Bharat Ratna for Balasaheb, make yourself heard.
