BALIK TANAW: Everytime theres a barangay elections, there are twoI barangays that always came to my mind: Barrio Palanas in Sta. Cruz, Tanjay, Negros Oriental, my birth place and Area J in San Gabriel, Carmona, Cavite, the place where I spent my early adolescent years. Barrio Captain Silva, respectable and dignified lady, was the kapitana in Palanas where I spent my early childhood days. If I remember it right, there was no election then. She was our kapitana all the time I was there. And I learned that her public service was rendered without remunerations. Mang Ramon Cruz was the Area leader in Area J. San Gabriel, Carmona, Cavite. Now, this place is called General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite and Area J is now composed of several barangays including one named after him. Mang Ramon became closed to me because like me, he also came from Negros Oriental. His only daughter, Connie Cruz was my school mate and fellow TFI scholar. Mang Ramon was very energetic. He served the community with so much dedication even without salary. MERON PA KAYANG KAPITANA SILVA AT MANG RAMON SA PANAHONG ITO? WISH KO LANG!
