BANDIT - Beagle - Male - 6-1/2 Y We were so blessed to have an awesome foster home come forward for our boy Bandit after being returned to our program in mid November. Here is what his loving foster momma has to say about Bandit the Beagle Boy: Bandit needs someone in his life who will cherish the love he so freely gives. He has had a lot of turmoil and strife in his 6.5 years of life, but you would never know it as Bandit is incredibly sweet, loving, and joyful. Whenever he sees a person, all he wants to do is go to them and be petted. He lives for human interaction. He loves to go on walks, riding in the car gets him hopping and bouncing like a 6 month old puppy, but his favorite thing in the whole world, is to cuddle up with his human. Bandit also informs me of when it is bedtime by getting up and walking into my bedroom and curling up next to my pillow. He is a special boy who deserves to be loved unconditionally. Bandit had a couple of behavior issues the first couple of days. There is no doubt in my mind that this was because of depression. He had two accidents in the house, but gentle, firm correction of the behavior proved to be all he needed. No accidents since then. In addition, Bandit was pulling quite hard on his leash, so hard that he was choking and gagging himself. After 3 days of this, we put a control collar on him. On the first day, he pulled until he felt the collar tighten. After 3 walks in one day, he stopped trying to pull. I put the collar on him the second day and he didnt pull at all. I havent used the collar on him since. Now, if he starts to get excited and pull, a quick, gentle tug on the leash brings him back under control. He is such a quick learner! Because he is a Beagle, it is important that he be on a leash or in a secured, fenced area whenever outside. His instinct is to detect and follow scents like rabbits, birds, etc. When he begins tracking something, he may forget to listen to you. He is much better than he was when he first arrived. Now, if I use a gentle, happy voice, he returns his attention back to me. Strong, angry, or commanding voice tones scare him. He will cower and not respond the way you want him to. Patience and gentleness is his trigger for good behavior. We are still working on his separation anxiety. He will need a human who is patient, kind, and willing to spend a lot of time teaching him that you are not going to leave him forever. Someone who works out of the home, or is home more than they are away is ideal for him. As for Bandits health, he has been neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped and house trained as well as crate trained. He is friendly with other dogs, and pays no attention to cats. My cat has tried to get Bandits attention and failed. If you want a loyal, loving dog with a happy disposition, a companion who wants to be wherever you are, and you arent worried about him being on the furniture with you, then this sweet boy would be a great match for you.Bandit is a very tender hearted pup. We absolutely love him. He has a spiffy new collar and leash, a marrowbone, a chuck-it ball, and food; his adoption fee is very affordable, and he is worth so much more for the years of loving, affectionate returns you will receive in exchange. Someone is going to be incredibly lucky to call this boy theirs. If interested, please call Rimrock Humane Society at 406-323-3687 or email us at [email protected].
