BANKING EXPOSED PART I I am glad I worked in the bank but not so happy I spent over 12 years there. For me it would have been something I should have done max 5 years because the cons in working in the bank is more than the pros. In Toastmasters we usually write the good part of every speech before we go into what is to be done better. So the pros. The PROS 1. You have a job that guarantees you money until you are sacked in sometimes the most embarrassing way. You come to work someday and log in and find you have been logged out by IT Dept on instructions from above. Nobody has the courtesy to write you formally, the way they wrote you when you were coming in. (Not in all cases. I voluntarily resigned. This does not make me better than those who were sacked. It could have been me.) 2. You can, if you are wise have a lot of investments you can rely on after you leave work. In this wise, you must be an aggressive saver no matter what. There are Many ways you can do this. You can give instructions for debiting of a particular amount same day they pay you salary and as you move up you increase the amount. This hardly works because of that law that as your income moves up your taste graduates. Besides you are now saddled with more responsibility than you can handle. Remember friends and relatives believe you work in the bank where you can dip your hands into the vault and collect money. A lot of married women I have encountered become breadwinners or so burdened financially that it affects their healthy. We had cases of women who collapsed and died. Another that ran mad in the market. That is the pressure they go through. This is in addition to becoming breadwinners or cash cows for extended families. A lot of married men become automatically cash cows for everyone. You need to see the day salaries are paid, the way transfers fly up and down. Lastly, remember as a banker you have to tush up so you spend their money to look good and drive good car that will befit your status until again one day you wake up and discover your bank is taken over by another and all of you asked to go because you are incompetent if not your bank would have been top 5. Of course it does not matter if you were a MERE or BLOODY officer. 3. You can do a lot of healthy borrowing to do great things. A lot of WISE bankers live in their own mortgaged houses. They borrowed money or are paying monthly. Now they dont have to pay those high rents. But the snag is somebody has to advise you to even think of mortgage and secondly the mortgage is usually for 15 to 20 years and if you lose the job which is the LIKELIEST thing, house may be repossessed or you go into highest depression or you develop high blood pressure. TO BE CONTINUED. CONTRIBUTIONS ARE WELCOME.
