BARGAIN ALERT | You might remember Tom Mitchell, you know - the guy who dominated in the NAB Cup, but then quickly fell apart early in the season, managing just six games for the year. Well, Sydney defender Ted Richards says talented youngster Tom Mitchell is on track to follow in the footsteps of Luke Parker and take the AFL by storm this year. In an ominous warning speaking to 3AW, Richards said Mitchell, who missed out on a spot in the Swans grand final side, was having an eye-catching pre-season and was set to break his way into the senior side on a permanent basis. Parker burst onto the scene last season, claiming the Swans best and fairest, and Richards said Mitchell was capable of having a similar impact for the star-studded Swans. Theres quite a few guys but someone Ive noticed whos really pushing themselves and I think will have a big year is Tommy Mitchell, Richards said on Sports Today. I think Tommy was pretty frustrated with his year last year and a lot of it was due to injuries and not being able to get on the park as much as he wanted, but Tommys a guy I think will be very important for us this year. Weve all been able to see how good his best is and hopefully we can see more of him because, unfortunately, quite a few players have had to deal with injuries from time to time.
