BARWELL 2 STAFFORD RANGERS 0 EVO-STIK NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE SATURDAY 14 DECEMBER 2013 Dan Cope missed a first half penalty as Rangers’ troubles continued with defeat at Barwell. Rangers played down the slope in the opening 45 mins but failed to take advantage as too many passes were carried away by the strong wind. A couple of chances came and went for Rangers as Darren Bullock toe poked a shot straight to Liam Castle and Tom Morris fired wired from around 20 yards. Instead, it was Barwell who found the way through on 18 mins when Tyrone Kirk curled his shot beyond the reach of Jon Brain after Danny Spencer’s cross wasn’t cleared. Rangers were gifted a great chance to bring the scores level on the half hour when Barwell right back Jack Edwards was harshly penalised for hand ball but Castle dived to his right to block Cope’s spot kick. It needed the combined efforts of Brain and Darren Bullock to stop Spencer from making it 2-0 before Spencer blazed another effort high over the bar. Early second half action saw play quickly switch from end to end. Bullock threw himself in front of a shot from Spencer moments before Cope’s shot was blocked by Castle. Barwell broke quickly with Spencer chipping over the Stafford bar then Kieron Brehorn denied Darren Chadwick a shot on the Barwell goal. But a miscued clearance from Bullock on 51 mins conceded possession to Luke Barlone wide on the Rangers left. Barlone advanced and eased past Morris before firing inside the far post to double Barwell’s advantage. Barlone wasted a chance to add to the lead but Rangers rarely looked like getting back into the game. Their best effort came in the final minutes when sub Jack Lees met an Ollie Davies cross on the half volley but he was unable to control his shot and the ball skewed high and wide.
