BATTERIES (ELECTRICAL PARTS) OF THE HUMAN HEART: Have you ever wondered what keeps your heart beating non-stop from inside your mummys womb until the day you take your last breathe? Well, we have electrical batteries in our hearts. The main battery (pacemaker) of the human heart is known as the sino-atrial (SA) node which normally keeps the human heart beating at around 60-100 per minute. But you know what, and how amazing God is? There is a second kind of battery that takes over if the SA node fails. This second one is called the atrio-ventricular (AV) node. However, the heart rate produced by the AV node is much slower/lower than the SA node but it should keep you alive until you get sorted by doctors via way of implanting a mechanical/artificial pacemaker in your chest. Even if the AV node fails as well, there are other tiny batteries scattered all over the human heart that will trigger (start up) to keep you alive until something more tangible is done by the doctors otherwise the heart will fail completely. The heart fights to keep you alive 247! How amazing the creator of this wonder machine is? Dr M C Ogwueleka (MBBS, MRCPUK)
