BAYELSA GOVT DEBUNKS REPORTS OF RISING TEMPERS The Bayelsa State - TopicsExpress

BAYELSA GOVT DEBUNKS REPORTS OF RISING TEMPERS The Bayelsa State Government has debunked and condemned in its entirety a front page caption on a National Daily “Tempers rise again in Bayelsa, Rivers” describing it as regrettable, misleading and embarrassing. A Government statement noted that, the headline was totally at variance with the real state of affairs on ground, especially when the State has consistently been rated as one of the most peaceful States in the Country, with the most recent of such ratings coming from the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, zone 5, Mr. Hashimu Aliyu Argungu, during his visit to the State earlier in the week. It states further that, the peaceful and serene atmosphere in Bayelsa State has continued to attract high profile visitors from within Nigeria and abroad as well as the successful hosting of major National and International events like the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant, the National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST), the World Tourism Day among other high profile events. The Government statement also described the screaming headline as the figment of some body’s imagination and the orchestration of mischief makers, whose motives are to put the State in bad light. While, expressing appreciation with the cordial working relationship it is enjoying with the press, Government called on Journalists to always cross check and substantiate the facts before going to press. The Statement equally urged Journalists in the State not to allow themselves to be used as tools to fan the embers of discord, cause disaffection and insecurity in the State. Col.
