BBC African Footballer Of The Year: Moses, Mikel, Make Five-Man Shortlist As Voting Starts. BBC Newsday programme will look to announce a first-time winner of the BBC African Footballer of the Year award this year, after drawing up five candidates who have not won the award in all previous editions. Ivory Coast international midfielder, Yaya Toure, made the five-man shortlist for the fifth consecutive year. Nigerian pair of Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel earned recognition from votes by 44 journalist across Africa after their involvement in the Super Eagles victorious Afcon 2013 campaign in South Africa. Burkina Fasos Jonathan Pitroipa and Pierre-Emerrick Aubameyang of Gabon became the first nominees from their respective countries. The winner will be decided by African football fans, who have until 18:00 GMT on 25 November to vote for their choice. The winner will be announced on Monday, 2nd December at 17:35 GMT on the BBCs Focus Africa radio and television programmes.
