BBC BREAKING NEWS (by Frank Burke)…… Police & paramedics were called to Larnaca Airport, on the idyllic island of Cyprus earlier amid scenes of what only can be described as “chaotic” … which at first appeared to be due to “the forced removal of a British woman from the immigration office as she “didn’t want to leave the island”…. The woman had apparently run off along the runway whilst walking out to the plane with her family, who have all been on the island for some 3 years, and were on a flight back to the UK, leaving her husband & 2 children on the boarding steps to the aircraft. Joe (a baggage handler who did not want to be named) was quoted as saying …. “The lady ran like a leopard and left me well behind, even on my baggage truck … I forgot I had everyone’s luggage still on the back, and my apologies to everyone for spilling the luggage over the runway as I pursued the lady… but my intentions were good….. The lady just kept screaming … I don’t want to go”…. After getting back to the terminal building, the lady evaded security & airport police officials as she darted into the immigration office and clung to the Officials desk …. The immigration official was quoted as saying…. “She bolted in through the door pushing the queue of waiting people aside and just leapt on my desk screaming .. “I don’t want to go”, over & over… what else could I do but call the paramedics”…. After “mild sedation” the woman calmed down after being told the weather forecast for the next week in the UK, which should be on a par with the island, and that she “really would see the sun again” … Immigration officials also reassured her that she could come back anytime… A police spokesman was quoted as saying “Who can blame the lady …. It’s very sad to have to leave behind such a lovely island with the thought of going back to a wet & drizzly little island in the North Sea… the lady.. she just panicked… we don’t get this often thankfully, but it broke my day up from sun bathing & ogling the pretty ladies on the beach (oops I wasn’t supposed to say that”)…. An embarrassed Mr. Olphert (who could only shake his head from side to side) refused to comment, but the children were heard to say “mummy didn’t want to leave….” Peace & calm have now been restored to the island, and after a short 20minute delay whilst the luggage was picked up from the runway, and a “slightly embarrassed Mrs. Olphert was reunited with her husband and two children, the flight left for the UK… The last word was for Mrs Olphert who was quoted as saying …” I don’t know what came over me … I just panicked at the thought of never seeing the sun again… I feel silly really now”…
