BBC News announced 53 Women in state of Chhattisgarh, India have been hospitalized with fever, pain and infection after indergoing sterilization surgery. 9 women have died, 83 women total were operated on in just 6 hours by only one doctor! The doctor only had assistance from one head worker who hasnt even been identified as a nurse. In a separate case 53 women were operated on in just 2 hours and many of them died, though the exact number has not been disclosed. The state government has ordered an inquiry as to how the procedure was done and why the remaining women are so ill. Women who undergo the sterilization procedure are being offered 5, 10 and 15 dollars for volunteering, though its been called more of a coercion due to the financial troubles of this rural area as the women would likely not refuse the offer out of desperation.
