BBC has predicted the race in Scotland for the NO vote. The pictures here say it all. With a 97% turn-out of those ages 16 and over, it is clear that the Conservative Tory party is still in charge. The final results havent been announced but the major cities are all in and nothing on the news wires indicates a split. You will recall in the William Wallace Braveheart story that the Scots were beaten several times before they finally realized that they ALL had to show up on the battlefield. This has likely been a sobering campaign for David Cameron. Id like to know whose idea it was to bring the 16 yr olds into the vote? Fresh-faced kids with no knowledge of laws, politics, history and one shot at freedom. Anyway it was a rousing campaign with lots of the fighting spirit, great cartoons, videos, news casts, but it seems that it Independence might lose. Change is difficult for the less intelligent because they have no confidence in their ability to be independent. We hopefully learned a great deal about referendums (initiatives) and organizing from witnessing this historic event. Id be willing to bet that the yes for independence side will try it again since they came this close to winning. But not for awhile, they did their campaign with donations from lottery tickets where people won big jackpots and put it up for the initiative.
