BBC reports new tests for dementia involve showing photos of celebrities to patients to gauge the level of brain deterioration. The study is fairly straightforward: doctors screen patients for early signs of memory decline by showing them headshots of famous faces, such as Elvis Presley, Albert Einstein and Princess Diana. Ability to identify the faces determines the presence/absence of a particular type of dementia, according to their study group of 57 patients – 30 of whom displayed symptoms of an early strain of dementia known as primary progressive aphasia (PPA), and 27 who did not have any type of dementia symptoms. More findings from the study can be read here: bbc.co.uk/news/health-23665502
