BC Swing dance students! As I mentioned in a previous email, I will be returning to Vancouver from October 28th to November 6th 2014. One of my main goals in coming back to Vancouver is to start the Port-O-Swing Vancouver Lindy Hop Performance Team. For most of you, I spoke with you about this directly, and for the others, this may be the first time that you have heard about it. If you check out the link below, you can view a three (3) minute routine that was put together with only seven (7) days notice. A popular singer and song writer I know, named Lily, asked for a choreographed routine for a new song to be performed with her Jazz Band. The concept was 2 girls and 1 boy off to catch a train at the station: the Swing Station! The training for this event took place in three (3) days with only three (3) hours of training per day. It was a fun event and I am very proud of this accomplishment for both me and my team. It was very inspiring and could look even better with more training and polishing. See the link to view: vimeo/107104772 The reason I show you all this is because I want to put a Performance Team together in Vancouver in order to do these types of performances, gigs and shows. I also know that Port-O-Swing Vancouver gets many requests to do these types of events and at the moment, we do not have enough staff and performance personnel to meet the needs and the requests that keep coming in. Currently, POS-V dance personnel are already involved in some major shows and demonstrations. At the end of September we did a major fund raiser for St. Pauls Hospital, called Brilliant!. This was done at the Commodore Ball Room in front of an audience of 1,500 people. This is an annual event for POS-V. A Team will be performing again at the BC Army Gala; an annual event where 600 people are expected to attend this year. On top of all that POS-V has done numerous other events including performances at the Scotia Bank Dance Centre, Robson Square, and other key venues. These are a few examples of the level and quality of requests that we get and I would like to expand on this in Vancouver with a great group of talented, dedicated Performance Team members. These types of routines are something you all can learn. I will provide the choreography and provide much instruction while I am in Vancouver from time-to-time through out the year. You are all at the level where you can practice and organize yourselves in a good team environment in order to keep practicing and performing various gigs like the one in the video (and bigger). In consultation with POS-V staff, we will select a Team Captain and a Team Manager when we know what the composition of the Team will be. I would like to see the Team larger than three (3) (as in the video) and that is why I am inviting over 10 Leads and 20 Follows to start the process and see where we end up with regards to final numbers. POS Quebec has a lot of experience with Performance Teams. Teams have been a critical factor in the development of the Swing Scene in Quebec City and I know the same will apply to Vancouver. I have personally developed hundreds of routines in my career and can provide the POS-V Team with all the support and guidance it will need along the way. I will also be providing dance instruction for the Team Members. I will follow up shortly with the date and time of the first meeting/workshops/master classes/recruitment boot-camp. In the mean time, please feel free to email with any questions. I will need to know before I come out if you have an interest in this Team, so please advise me via email. Answer needed by October 21st, 2014. Since I dont know all the dancers from the Vancouver area swing scene any suggestions of other interested parties will also be considered and appreciated. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this email and considering my offer to get involved. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you all when I am back in Vancouver, Sincerely, Benjamin Ricard --
