BDP 2014 The Botswana Democratic Party wishes to strongly condemn incidences where polling stations ran out of ballot papers on the weekend as polling officers and others who will be involved in the running of the general elections were voting. This shortage of ballot papers is unacceptable and the IEC must come out and explain to the nation how this occurred and importantly how they intend to avert this calamity going into the general election. While human error happens, it is not acceptable at any level that after registering people and knowing exactly how many will vote at given polling stations we have shortages of this nature. Democracy and legitimate government are built upon the will of the majority and each person being able to exercise the franchise. The core mandate of the IEC is then to ensure that every citizen is able to exercise this right. We call upon the Executive Secretary of the IEC and the Commissioners to act urgently to avert any further crisis of this nature.
