PRESS STATEMENT ------------------------- 9th January 2015 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TEAM BUHARI-OSINBAJO 2015 Lagos, Nigeria. ------------------------- RE: NEGATIVE POLITICS AND THE DANGERS AHEAD Fellow Nigerians, We have observed with grave concern the tirade of personal attacks on the personage and characters of our candidates General Buhari and Prof Osinbajo. These attacks have typically ranged from the absurd to the libelous. We note that the origins of some of these attacks have often emanated from official spokespersons of the ruling party, their sympathizers and followers. We view such an approach to politics as unfortunate and akin to lighting a match to a keg of gun-powder. The Nigerian polity is already at its most fragile. Never before in the history of our democracy has this country been so sharply and deeply divided along ethnic and religious lines. The political temperatures are rising across the country. It is therefore highly irresponsible for any politician or their sympathizer to continue to play up these divisions by unguarded utterances. We hereby issue a cease & desist order to all such persons who have taken the perilous highroad of negative politics. We declare that we will not be part of such insanity. We ask all supporters of our candidates across the country to exercise restraint and demonstrate maturity in all their political declarations and actions. Change will come to this country but it will be peaceful and it will put to shame all those who are trying to throw us into chaos. God bless you all. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
