BE STILL AND KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT GOD Psalm 130 Psalm 131 (New Living Translation) Psalm 130:1 From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help.2 Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer.3 LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive?4 But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you.5 I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.6 I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.7 O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is unfailing love and an overflowing supply of salvation.8 He himself will free Israel from every kind of sin. Psalm 131:1 LORD, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty. I dont concern myself with matters too great or awesome for me. 2 But I have stilled and quieted myself, just as a small child is quiet with its mother. Yes, like a small child is my soul within me. 3 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD--now and always. Psalm 130 and Psalm 131 allows us to see another aspect becoming still before God.. And this time the application is that we realize we are not God! Many of us on our rightful mind will declare that we are gods? And yet in our wicked hearts we acted like we are Sovereign. Psalm 130 is the cry, while Psalm 131 is the psalm of a calmed heart. Here ask ourselves in what way we acted like we were god? Perhaps its the way we generalize things, and judge people. Or the way we perform and the way we bully others? Since the tower of Babel man has always been so ambitious for power, for control, for becoming a deity of its own kind. And ever since, God comes in to frustrate us... So we can be still and know who is truly God. This is reason why worship, waiting upon the Lord is of utmost important. This is not only a solitary practice but a community responding to Gods command to be still..... Psalm 131 is a psalm of confession and a psalm that deliberately set the boundary between what we can do and what we can’t. This is not intended as an excuse by which escape our responsibility, rather this is Godly way of engaging life and all its hard and harsh realities. We face it no longer on our own but with the Lord.... The more close you to God the more relax you should be. Consider these insights regarding the issue of being still and knowing that we are not God. BE STILL AND WAIT ON THE LORD IN PRAYER (1) When waiting is an irritation or an offense it tells us that we are not still and not knowing who God is Waiting upon the Lord we avail of His strength Waiting upon the Lord we humbly admit our limits Waiting upon the Lord allows us to ask ourselves honest and hard questions Here we see God drawing the boundaries between His ways and our ways Waiting upon the Lord defines our order from God We become less driven, more deep and more and more becoming easy to live with BE STILL AND WORSHIP THE LORD IN PRAISE (2) The symbolism of a weaned child speaks of change. From infancy to childhood Where your worship life is so goes everything in life It is in the worship of God praising His name together that we are being weaned Weaned from the worship of man into a life that truly seeks God Weaned from milk wanting to taste meat Weaned from tantrums learning to be calmed and quiet despite the pressure Weaned from the appetite for things, yes even the appetite for blessings Weaned from setting a dead line into enjoying Gods perfect timing Weaned from fear into relating to God freely in grace Yes like a child undergoing a transition to being mature Only when we learn to truly worship God we withdraw from lesser things BE STILL AND IN WISDOM LIVE YOUR NEW PERSONALITY IN THE LORD (3) Your new name Israel Your fresh start now and always Your new opportunity to hope in the Lord Your boldness is because of your brokenness Your godly confidence not your arrogance Concluding thoughts: Before we can experience calm in the midst of the storm we need to cry to the God of the storm Be still and know God must also bring us to bow down and say i am not God The world will continue their pursuit for becoming all knowing via science and technology They may predict the storm but only God can stop it. Because we are not God let us continue to WAIT ON HIM IN PRAYER, WORSHIP HIM IN PRAISE, AND LIVE OUT GODS WISDOM IN HUMILITY.... True stillness of the heart, and true waiting upon the Lord and true worship, and displaying of true wisdom happens only when we bow down to the true Messiah Jesus Christ... Amen
