BEACH PROFILE: Golden Gates Beach Golden Gate Beach is a 200 m long strip of sand located at the base of 50 m high densely vegetated slopes and bordered by rounded granite. It is located in the West Cape How National Park and it receives waves averaging about 2 m, which break across a 100 m wide surf zone, with rocks littering the beach and inner surf. A strong permanent rips runs out against the sloping western granite rocks. A 4 WD track called the ‘Golden Road’ reaches the top of the beach. Golden Gates Beach is also a popular location for surfers. This remote spot is accessible only by four-wheel drive. Pictures: Che Cooper
