BEAU GESTE (1926) There arent too many truly important - TopicsExpress

BEAU GESTE (1926) There arent too many truly important American films of the 1920s that have not survived and, better yet, are not in circulation today. BEAU GESTE is one of those tragically elusive films that survives, evidently restored, but is kept out of circulation. As Ive said before on other posts, I am forced to believe the the neglect is deliberate due to the films so politically incorrect view of colonialism. UNDER TWO FLAGS seems to have suffered a similar fate although I must admit that this film misses the mark in a number of respects. I am willing to accept as a compromise to make these un-PC films set in the Middle East available on home video and banish them from the airwaves in return. There may be some consolation in that films with similar subjects have likewise been banished - LIVES OF A BENGAL LANCER and THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE. At least these are readily available on DVD in beautiful quality.
