BEAUTIFUL MADANG.....? That is something of the past it seems. - TopicsExpress

BEAUTIFUL MADANG.....? That is something of the past it seems. Today there is rubbish everywhere. What does this tell us? It just reflects our attitude and mentality. It tells us that have no concern for our towns. We have no concern for the environment. We have no concern for the (international) reputation of our country, because Madang continues to draw many tourists from overseas. So the common folk does not seem to care at all about the rubbish. I dont care! None of my business! This I dont care mentality seems especially to be present in the town authority. I dont think that there is a proper plan for waste management. They have eyes, but they dont (want to) see. They have money, but they dont know how to spend it on the right, urgent and important matters. So here I am, a local tourist, coming down from Simbu to spend some days in Madang to relax. As I walked through the Sir Donald Cleland Park I was really shocked. Under the big trees near the playing grounds of children and benches for people to sit under the shades and enjoy their lunch, you see hills of rubbish pilled up. How can the urban authority allow rubbish to be dumped in what could be potentially such a beautiful park and tourist magnet for Madang? It is just sad and shocking to see how the urban authoritie have miserably failed in this regard. I am just a local tourist. What will a tourist from Japan, Germany or the US do. He will take pictures. The next second his pictures will be on the internet and PNG will hit the international headlines again. We have had enough negative headlines in the past. Its time now for a change in attitude and mentality, starting from the head down to the tail. Otherwise well be living in in filth soon.
