BEHIND THE COUNTER Finally began reading The Sisters Brothers, by Patrick DeWitt, from Canada, or England, or one of those witty places-- Patrick a recent addition to the over-populating of Oregon, of whom denizens of Tsunami roundly approve. What a great fun book, built like no other, truly as if a young Cormac McCarthy and a young Mark Twain had collaborated over a month of fun in Portlandia. Indeed, I readily blame DeWitt for causing me to show a little late for work this morning. Been very lively around the Bookstore of late, beginning this past Saturday, December 6th, which not only was a full moon, but was the very cusp of birthdays for such local lights as Martin the Homeless Wolf in Sheeps Clothing (who Baby Gramps dedicated a Birthday Dirge to at his afternoon concert), Wally Jones, Mike Meyer, Ken Zimmerman, Bonny Bettman, Patricia Campuzano, Maz, and Scott Landfield. There was also a 52nd wedding anniversary in the neighborhood that provided a most wonderful, inspirational example of healing and rejuvenation. Yes indeed, an inspiring beginning to a long good holiday season for us all. Though a word of warning: A sudden snowstorm has settled in the valley. Please pay no attention to the glow on Katharine Colberts belly, its just a sucker-hole between blizzards. If youre coming down to shop, be prepared for a good long visit.
