BEHOLD A MASTERPIECE Sisters by Alma Anonas-Carpio Does it matter that blood Is not our bond? And so what if it is? And so what if the ties Between us transcend even soul? We are sisters in the delightfully arcane, The willfully profound, The moment frozen in the ether Of hearts that refuse any withering, Reject any call but that howl Across the wild vastness of possibilities. We are siblings closer Than the closest Subatomic melding. Our hearts tap out The staccato of our Collective coven Of breath, of life, Of death, of strife, Of food and fanfare, Of grief and loss, Of new beginnings Made over and over In incalculable permutations. We are prayer in synergy, We are power encompassing strength, We are banded together in a word Rife with all that can be: Sister -- she who waits with me, Whose tears track mine, Whose backbone holds Where mine falters. She who carries me over That threshold when I can barely even stand. Sister, my defender, Sister for whom I would Lay down my own life and heart. Treasure of woman, My divine feminine. This love between us Knows no obstacle or limit. Kitchen-sister, work-sister, Sister in the dark, sister of light. Yes, soul-sister, too, and sister-goddess And sister in fun as well as pain. Woman, you love so well And are beloved beyond all reason. This binding is one of such power As to transcend death and forgetting. Bless my sisters, for they bless me Just by being my sisters. We walk through mists and forests; Brave heatwaves, dive deep, drink deeper, Beat our war-drums, bury our hatchets, Keep our secrets, bind our wounds, Celebrate victory and soar high together. We are sisters.
