BEHOLD A VERY DISTINGUISHED GREAT ARBICAN !!! Mrs Oluremi Tinubu was born on September 21st 1960 as the twelfth child of Chief and Mrs. John Ikusebiala (Odugbesan) of Ogun State. She had her secondary school education at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ijebu-Ode. Senator Oluremi Tinubu, OON, represents Lagos Central Senatorial District on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). She earned a National Certificate of Education (Botany and Zoology) from the Adeyemi College of Education,Ondo in 1982 and graduated from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education (Biology) in 1985. Prior to her election in 2011, she had served as the First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007. Her interests lie in the promotion of the rights and dignity of the poor, disadvantaged and most vulnerable members of the society. As First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu established the New Era Foundation, dedicated to establishing centres for "all round development of young ones and promote public awareness on environmental health and community service. The New Era Foundation is a non- governmental organisation which is geared towards voluntary social service through programmes that are geared towards youth and women development. She became an unstoppable youth and development advocate and worked tirelessly to touch lives and inspire young people to strive for excellence. Senator Oluremi Tinubu, an untiring educationist initiated various programmes including an annual Spelling Bee competition to raise educational standards; the annual “One-Day Governor” programme that produced several First Class universities and; the Alternative School for Girls in Lagos state who dropped out of school due to early pregnancy. Selflessly, she established various endowment funds in four universities. Her unpublicised contribution to education and other populist causes spread across to distant places like Liberia where she donated school buildings as part of efforts to help the war-torn country get over some of its challenges. Her worthy contributions to educational development includes her donation of a science Block to Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo. Her celebration of life involves sowing into the lives of others. During her 45th birthday, she donated millions of Naira towards the building of the National Sickle Cell Centre and during her 50th birthday celebration, all monetary gifts were donated to social causes. In recognition of her achievements and contribution to various social causes, she is a recipient of many prestigious national and international awards, prominent among which is the award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). Her trajectory of support for humane causes, development of youths and education continues even as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. She hosts a quarterly Town Hall Meeting with her constituents, to discuss development issues and give a feedback on her official activities in Abuja. Within her first year in office as Senator, she sponsored a Bill to provide social security for Nigeria’s frail but struggling elderly citizens. She also launched the Post-Secondary School Scholarship Scheme (PSSS) whereby 26 beneficiaries are paid the sum of N100, 000 annual scholarships for 4 years and 598 students of tertiary institutions receive N10, 000 bursaries to help defray the cost of procuring academic books. Senator Oluremi Tinubu also launched the Petty Traders Empowerment Capital Scheme (PETECS) to help 624 petty traders re-capitalise an existing petty trade. In conjunction with organisations and individuals, she initiated the “One Church” Musical Youth Fiesta aimed towards discovering new talents. She has authored several books including a biography titled “The Journey of Grace – My Faith Walk”. Senator Oluremi Tinubu has been a notable speaker at many conferences both at home and abroad. Notwithstanding these achievements, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a firm believer in the ideals of excellence, social change and genuine development has not rested on her oars. A role model for the Nigerian Youth, and women, Oluremi Tinubu is a philanthropist and a patron to several non- governmental and humanitarian organisations. She is married to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the marriage is blessed with children.
