BEING OBEDIENT? The truth is, IT SUCKS to have to be obedient to GOD. IT just sucks! I know some of you feel the same way. I hate being obedient!!!!! The words obey me, submit to me, I command you to - that isnt me and I know some of you dont like it when these words are used against you. For me its you cant tell me what to do NO! I tell you what to do!!! But do you know what? We all have some obedience in us and we are obeying the laws of this world and dont even know it and/or dont look at it that way. Just a few examples, it is an unwritten law of nature to: look both ways when crossing streets, to not put your hand into a blazing fire, to put clothes on in public, and to rest. We dont look at these actions as being obedient, we just do it. What I am trying to say here is even though I hate the term obeying obedient - I actually am an obedient person. You are too - do you stop at red lights? Ok for those like me who hate these set of word obey, obedience, lets just overlook it when we are asked to do something. Especially when going through the Bible. The words Obey and being obedient to God is used a lot. And it bothers me that these words are used, I know it triggers a reaction in me and maybe you. My default still remains, no one tells me what to do. Here is the thing though, we dont have to look at it this way. Instead of making it so black and white, lets look at it as setting a good path for the rest of our lives by listening to what God has to say, why He is saying it and know He has the best intentions for us. Lets look at it as, I am doing this because my old life wasnt good, so I/we want to follow the way that is good for us. God isnt trying to hurt us by asking us to follow and obey Him. Every time we see the words obey and obedience we can replace it with the words, because He loves us, we know what He says is good so we will do what He says and expect our lives to change for the better - we may not see it now, but we know God will surely keep His promises for us to enjoy an abundant life for the rest of our lives here on earth and later in heaven. HIS words are near, we just have to accept it. Our God is a straight shooter and His message to us is perfectly clear: Deuteronomy 30:11-18 NIV Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, nor beyond the sea. No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you. But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long. I know what I am going to do, and that is to follow His ways, His path for me. I encourage you all to do the same so we can see each other in heaven. I love you all! Lets all walk together on His good path and enjoy life ok?
