BEING THE TEXT OF MY RESPONSE AFTER THE CONFERRENMENT ON ME OF THE 2014 MOST OUTSTANDING PERSON MERITOROUS AWARD BY THE SOS VILLAGE OWU IJEBU AND CHILD AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT INNITIATIVE, TODAY, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2014. It is with the greatest pleasure that I stand before you at this moment to receive this cherished 2014 CFDI/SOS Outstanding Person Meritorious Award. For me it is double joy, as this award is coming on the occasion of the 1st Prof. Samuel O. Onakomaiya Memorial Lecture. I can say that Professor Onakomaiya mentored me from the time I was a nobody till his death. Along with our departed Icons like Chief Zed Ade Ogunde, Prof. Onakomaiya, co-founded Itele High School of which I was part of the first set (1978/83). I have said it during his wake keep, and I can say it now, with all modesty, that my success as a Council Chairman cannot be divorced from my relationship with Professor Akin Mabogunje and Professor S. O. Onakomaiya. Further on, I view my award today as a genuine recognition by the organizersthe last seven years, my years have always started on January first at SOS. My immediate family members are very aware and have accepted SOS Village as part of our extended family. We have on several occasions brought individually donated items here. For this, I want to thank my wife and children. Permit me to thank my political followers who have annually accompanied me to SOS Village on January First. They know my only rule is: if you dont have anything to give the Village, please dont follow me. I also thank my directors and staff of Ijebu East Local Government during my tenure as Council Chairman. They knew if you want to make the Chairman happy on his birthday or any other milestones, just go and donate to the SOS. And severally they donated. I dedicate this award to late Mrs. Remi Oyo, the immediate past Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). This woman mentored me to the extent that I was very comfortable to call her Mummy. I humbly ask that we all rise for a meeting silence in honour of Professor S. O. Onakomaiya and Mrs. Remi Oyo (may God bless their souls). Thank you for your attention. Tunde Oladunjoye Owu Ijebu.
