BEING THE TEXT OF THE PRESS RELEASE OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS(NANS) ZONE-D RELEASED BY THE ZONE CORDINATOR, COMRADE ADEYEMO MONSURU(SOCRATES) TODAY 13th SEPTEMBER 2013 ON ASUU STRIKE AND NATIONAL NANS PRESIDENT PRESS RELEASE. MOMENT OF TRUTH Solidarity Greetings to all Combatant Comrades, Freedom Fighters, Liberation Cadres, Leftist Ideologues, Pan-African Warriors and Progressive Opinion Leaders among Students / Student Leaders, Joint Action Front (JAF), Right Activists, ASUU and other Staff Unions that have contributed immensely to these Saving Education Struggles, particularly, since July 1, 2013 that this on-going ASUU struggles have started, may we triumph over the Oppressors/ Slave-Drivers and their Stooges / Puppets. Like Fela Anikulapo Kuti (Baba 70), The Pan-African Musician and Legendary Figure of all times, “…which kondisan you dey me I don’t know na kondisan me I dey me I know, my kondisan don reach make I talk –Nigeria geti money, Foreign money for oversea…”, though, we may be in the era of global deceit where telling truth is like committing the crime but this present Zone-D Leadership (Excos, JCC’s SUG’S, Progressive Former Leaders and Entire Nigerian Students in the Zone) and I as a person will continue to say the truth on the things that matter, as Yoruba Adage has it, “ Ti iro ba lo logun odun, Ojo kan soso ni otito aba- it takes truth a twinkling to defy the falsehood”. Martin Luther King (Jnr) said, “Our days begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter”. Our today’s misfortune or “Katakata” that we have been subjected to is as the results of our Fore-Fathers / Fathers’ Inactions, Actions and Reactions and we may likely create one for the incoming generation if we fail to call a spade a spade. We want to use this medium to categorically state it that NANS National should retrace their steps and re-access their ambiguous stand of ‘we are neither for ASUU nor for Federal Government or else NANS ZONE-D WILL PULL OUT FROM NANS NATIONAL’. It is a Political Statement that can never solve this problem and it is painful that the subjective nature of NANS National Leadership Press Statement that is recently read by Com. Yinka Gbadebo, The NANS President, logically means that NANS National is less concerned about the on-going ASUU Strike and it is also dialectically shows that NANS National is for Federal Government to Oppress or Suppress University Teachers (ASUU) on FG/ASUU 2009 Agreement which is meant to be honoured and implemented in order to save Education Sector and also to achieve Globally Competitive University System, though, The Universities across the country must be re-opened soon because we are tired of staying at home and the strike is greatly affecting the academic calendars but the stand of NANS National Leadership is not the solution, it is provoking the situation, creating indifference and complicating the issues at hand – crises in the Education Sector. If NANS National is not political and bias, they would not meet President Goodluck Jonathan, Gov. Gabriel Suswam and the Sanctioned Minister of Education –Mrs Rukayat Rufai on these on-going crises in The Education Sector, majorly on ASUU Strike and totally abandoned Staff Unions who are also the major party. Our advice for our National Leadership, it is not good, this glorious, Objective and Ideological Association, NANS, is more than holding brief for Impersonal, Mechanistic and Anti-People Federal Government of Nigeria Led by Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (Who was also a Teacher). When did NANS National become Media Consultants to Federal Government? by Brainwashing People and instigating Students against University Teachers and Indicting Education Workers Publicly. In lieu of this, we implore Com. Yinka Gbadebo, One and Only, Almighty and Omnipotent NANS President to Publicly tender apology to entire Nigerian Students and University Teachers (ASUU) for being bias and also this medium is used to implore Him to turn Himself to a Mediator if He believes that Supporting ASUU means being Sectional because No amount of threat can make this group of Intellectuals –ASUU that means good for Education and Nigerian Masses at large to compromise their Progressive Stand on Saving Education and achieving Globally Competitive University System Struggles –Honouring / Implementation of FG/ASUU 2009 Agreement is the answer or else NANS National just want to use ASUU to collect Something or gain Political relevance in the Presidency and before Gov. Suswam. We use this Platform to frown at the deceitful meeting recently called in Lagos by Com. Yinka Gbadebo which was later turned to Press Conference to cajole Federal Government that NANS National has coerced The Leadership of NANS Zone-D to join anti-ASUU Struggles, NO, we are still on our stand “October 1, 2013 Mass Action is on point and Save Education Struggles Continue…” Thank God that some of Our Comrades that attended the meeting on open-minded ground Categorically state it that “NO GOING BACK” on Our Stand, though, some ASUU members (Lecturers) may have their misdeeds but these are the issues Not Personalities… NANS ZONE-D DEMANDS STILL REMAIN: 1. Declaration of State of Emergency in Nigerian Education Sector 2. Proper Funding of Compulsory, Free and Quality Education at all levels- from primary to tertiary level and cancellation of fees. 3.
