BELIZE ~ OUR CITIZENS IN UK & BRITISH CITIZENS IN BELIZE This category, collated for the first time in 2001, is a combination of people born in central American states (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama) and Greenland, far to the north. It is a small group of people – just 9,000 in Britain in 2001 – perhaps representing the few historic links with these countries. However, it may be a category to watch – particularly if recent developments in economic migration from the poorer parts of the Americas continue over the next decade. See links below for more information. 8,199 British nationals visited Belize in 2011. Most visits are trouble free. The depth and breadth of relationships between countries depend largely on the amount of personal contacts between the people of each state. The personal contacts between British and Belizean people can expand through tourism linkages, military cooperation for training, R&R and retirement, education linkages and business linkages. These should be the focus of our Belize High Commission in the UK. What have they done for us since Independence in 1981?
