BELLOW ARE SOME SENATOR RASHIDI LADOJA’S ACHIEVEMENTS AS A GOVERNOR OF OYO STATE FOR 3 YEARS AND 1MONTH. DESPITE BEEN FRUSTRATED BY ADEDUBU EDUCATION • Introduced 30 student per class policy to decongest classrooms and raise the standard • Increased the no of secondary schools to 920 from 344 • Cancelled automatic promotion for students in Public Schools • Recruited 5000 NCE graduates as teachers for primary schools • Recruited 1000 Non-teaching staff • Recruited 1500 graduates as teachers for sec schools • Promoted more than 700 primary school teachers as Head teachers • Promoted over 400 teachers to the post of principals • Promoted over 400 head tutors marching on levels 14 and 15 to Vice principals’ status • Embarked on massive reconstruction and renovation of classroom blocks in public schools • Additional construction of 1200 six classroom blocks across the state • Built millennium schools • Purchase and distribution of vehicles to zonal and local inspectors of education across the state to strengthen quality control • Purchase and distribution of books worth millions of naira to students in public schools • Cleared 2years arrears of leave bonus owed teachers by his predecessors in office amounting to millions of naira • Restored public confidence in public school system in that Oyo state such that the was over half a million enrolment of students into 2,000 public primary schools • With about 45,000 teachers, Oyo state has the highest no of teachers in the country. It also has the highest no of public secondary schools and principals in the country • Won the Best performing governor in Education award in Nigeria, given by NUT in Abuja, August 2005 • Won the Best performing governor’s award by National Association of Polytechnic Students in 2004 • Honoured with the distinguished award by the NUT in 2005 • Honoured by the Exam Ethic Project as the state with the best Exam friendly record for 2004 • Facilitated 100% relocation of Oyo State College of Education to its Erelu permanent site from its old St Andrew’s College of Education site • Established a new College of Education at Lanlate • Developed the infrastructure at Oyo State College of Education comparable to any University standard • Built Multi Million Naira Senate building at LAUTECH • Undertook 19 other projects at LAUTECH • Devoted over 30% of the budget to education • Introduced a system whereby teachers get their leave allowance at the month of resumption • Carried out mass promotion exercise for teachers • Disarticulates JSSC1-3 from SSSC 1-3 in line with the Education policy • Resuscitated boarding house school system • Eradicated cultism from The Polytechnic Ibadan and ensured that over 8,000 students were expelled for certificate forgery and fake papers • Establishment of school of Agriculture at Igboora ROAD AND TRANSPORTATION • Establishment and take-off of Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency OYSROMA • Rehabilitation of over 110 roads in Ogbomosho, Ibadan, Oyo and Igboora with asphalt with drainages and culverts • Rehabilitation of over 250km of inter city roads • Construction of over 100km of roads in Oke Ogun area of Oyo State • Dualization of Ojoo-Mokola Road • Dualization of Iwo-Road interchange- Leyland-Olodo • Asphaltic rehabilitation of Iseyin-Ijaiye-Moniya road • Rehabilitation of Saki-Oje Owode road • Establishment of a new asphalt plant at Ijaiye • Purchase and delivery of 200 new Hiace buses to NURTW in the state • Purchase and distribution of over 3,000 motorcycles to Okada riders • Purchase and distribution of over 1,000 tricycles to boost transportation in the state • Establishment of luxurious bus park along Lagos-Ibadan expressway and Sango WATER SANITATION AND SUPPLY • Within one week of assumption of office, many areas in Ibadan which hitherto had not been enjoying water supplying started enjoying pipe borne water • Rehabilitation of water plant at Asejire, Osegere and Eleyele • Adequate provision of water treatment chemicals and power supply to back water supply • Rehabilitation of water works at Igboho, Ago- Amodu, Oyo, Saki, Ogbomosho, Ilora • Eradication of Guinea Worm in Oyo state with the provision of 401 functional boreholes • Construction of 6 Ventilated Improved Toilets at Gege market, Araromi spare parts markets and other major markets in the state • Replacements of damaged water pipes with plastic pipes AGRICULTURE AND POVERTY REDUCTION • Establishment of AFFCOT Mahindra plant at Eleyele to enable farmers purchase tractors at affordable prices • Provided 50 new tractors to complete with implements to all local governments while 47 others were repaired with implements • Reorganization and reestablishments of Farm Settlements across the state • Encourage Cooperative farming schemes and provided loans to farmers • Procurement of Agro-Chemical and Fertilizers to farmers at subsidized rates • Training of over 5,000 farmers in Agricultural business at Rural Community Development Centre, Awe. • Rehabilitation of Fish hatchery at Ogbomosho • Creation of 6 additional hatcheries in the various farm settlements • Over 600,000 seedlings of forest trees were made available free of charge to farmers, corporate bodies and schools • The Zoological garden at Agodi was renovated • Improved seedlings of Cocoa , Cashew, Oil Palm, were produced for farmers • Establishment of Cassava Chip making factory at Igbeti in Olorunsogo LGA • Repair and revival of Grain processing plants and warehouses at Oyo • Oyo State Agricultural Re-Awakening Programme was launched at Guguru Village in Oriire LGA • The Young Graduate Farmers’ Scheme for planting of Cash Crops was launched • Over 50million naira was given out as loans by Agricultural Credits Corporation • The repair of most dams and irrigation facilities was done and COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY • Investment portfolio of the state was increased with additional investment in stocks and shares running into millions of naira • Ogbomosho Shopping Complex was constructed and commissioned • Hydrated Lime Production Factory was established at Igbori Alaguntan at Oriire LGA • Establishment of Plastic valves and pipes company at Eleyele • Establishment of Fruit Juice and Tomato Paste Production factory at Oko, Surulere LGA • Burnt brick factory at Erunmu • AFFCON Tractor assembly plant • Return of Leyland Motors to its owners, Eba Odan Nig Ltd • Establishment of Agro-Allied Industries across the state • Rehabilitation of skill acquisition centres across the state RURAL ELECTRIFICATION • Mangana and Idi Mango at Oluyole LGA • Okusindo and Fatokun in Akinyele LGA • Jago in Ona Ara LGA • Alata in Oluyole LGA • School of Science Idere • 6 new transformers were provided for Eruwa, Gbotikale and Tapa HEALTH • The first ever drug policy was established with the inauguration of Drug Advisory • A reconstituted state committee on AIDS was inaugurated and made functional • Upgrading of Adeoyo Maternity Centre to become a Centre for postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology • Procurement of Ultra-Modern dialysis centre for the newly established Dialysis Centres at Ibadan and Ogbomosho • Supply of Medical Equipments to General Hospitals in the state • Construction of General Hospitals at Egbeda and Iwere-Ile • Adeoyo General Hospital Ring Road was refurbished and renovated • NGO and Foreign associations were encouraged to provide free eye operations and other services • An ART centre for monitoring HIV/AIDS was established at Ogbomosho CIVIL SERVICE • All arrears of leave bonus totaling 1.5billion naira was cleared • Leave bonuses were paid as at when due • Salaries were paid before the 23rd of every month • All office blocks at Secretariat were renovated • Promotion exercises were carried out as at when due. All accumulated promotions for 2001, 2002 and 2003 were released. • Over 1.9 billion naira was spent to clear arrears of pension and gratuities • Civil servants were not molested and intimidated and conducive working environment was provided • Vehicle and housing loans were provided for Civil Servants • Training of Civil servants on Computer literacy
