BEN CHAFIN WINS REPUBLICAN NOMINATION IN 38TH SENATE DISTRICT TAZEWELL, VA, 19 JUNE 2014: Delegate A. Benton “Ben” Chafin Jr. (R-Russell) won the Republican nomination for the Virginia Senate in the 38th District in today’s Republican Mass Meeting, in which 834 voters participated. Chafin, who represents the 4th District in the Virginia House of Delegates, was born and raised in Southwest Virginia. He is an attorney in private practice and the owner and operator of a beef-cattle farm in Moccasin Valley. He serves as Chairman of the Board of First Bank & Trust Company, which has branches throughout Southwest Virginia and Eastern Tennessee. He is a member and former president of Russell County Rotary. “Ben Chafin has been an effective and hardworking delegate, and he’ll make a great senator for the people of Southwest Virginia,” declared Senate Majority Leader Thomas K. Norment, Jr. (R-James City). “Ben’s commitment to the people of his community and understanding of the unique challenges and great potential of Southwest were on full display this past General Assembly session. “Ben has already proven that he will stand up for coal and the traditional values of Southwest. He’ll work for a stronger economy and fight the Democrats’ anti-coal policies. “Ben Chafin is the right candidate for Southwest and, in this critical race, for the people of Virginia.” Chafin will be the Republican nominee in the Special Election scheduled for Tuesday, August 19. The 38th Senatorial District includes all of Bland, Buchanan, Dickenson, Pulaski, Russell, and Tazewell Counties, the Cities of Norton and Radford, and portions of Montgomery, Smyth, and Wise Counties.
