BENGAL INFORMATION: When Bengals were first introduced to the public, they carried a reputation from the very first Bengals for being wild, untamed, unfriendly, and a danger to humans. This rumor still is shared by cat breeders throughout CFA (Cat Fanciers of America). Those of us that own Bengals know differently. They are not only very beautiful and jungle looking, but they are loyal to their owner, affectionate, communicative, interactive and entertaining. They can have a strong bond with other cats in the household, as well as dogs. As reputations have a habit of lingering, shelters, humane societies, and Vet offices were extremely reluctant to place them for adoption and euthanized them instead. Because Bengals are sensitive cats, they do not do well in shelters, therefore, there are now Bengal rescues across the country so that they can transition easily from a foster home into their forever home. Note from Admin: I have two Bengal boys myself. Both are affectionate. When younger, they were very active cats, therefore they required play time. A tall condo or some kind of area should be provided so that they can jump or climb to. I know this is something Tara enjoys. Tara also enjoys being by the window during the day. Ours enjoy the condos by the windows. They should never be allowed outside.....they can become objects for theft. Our Bengal boys get along with all the cats in our home, have never shown aggressive behavior towards any of our cats, towards us, towards our vet or other people coming into the home. If anything, people coming in are leary of them, especially when my very confident boy walks up to a stranger with no fear and meows in his bengal voice to be petted! Bengals are very smart and can be clicker trained and leash trained as kittens. Some have been known to play fetch. My one boy is leash trained. Our bengal boys enjoy hanging out with us in the evening and can frequently be found on a lap while we watch TV!
